Provencher MP Ted Falk is not a member of the 71 MP strong shadow cabinet announced by Pierre Poilievre earlier this month, but he’s not alone among Manitoba MPs.

About 60 percent of all Conservative MPs were assigned to shadow cabinet posts, a percentage that reflects Manitoba as well, where four of seven MPs were given assignments.

All those who supported Pierre Poilievre in his leadership campaign were rewarded.

GREG VANDERMEULEN CARILLON ARCHIVES Provencher MP Ted Falk was one of three Manitoba Conservative MPs on the outside looking in at Pierre Poilievre’s new shadow cabinet.

Marty Morantz, MP for Charleswood – St James – Assiniboia – Headingley, was given the role of associate shadow minister for finance and middle class prosperity (affordable government).

Dan Mazier, MP for Dauphin – Swan River – Neepawa, was given the role of shadow minister for rural economic development and connectivity.

James Bezan, MP for Selkirk – Interlake – Eastman, was given the role of shadow minister for national defence.

Raquel Dancho, MP for Kildonan – St Paul was the only Manitoba Conservative MP who did not endorse Poilievre to earn an assignment. She made no endorsement for any candidate in the leadership race.

Provencher MP Ted Falk endorsed Dr. Leslyn Lewis while Brandon – Souris MP Larry Maguire endorsed Jean Charest. Neither were given an assignment.

However Falk was given an appointment to the natural resources committee.

Also left out was Portage-Lisgar MP Candice Bergen who served as interim leader, and as such, did not endorse a candidate. Bergen announced she will not seek re-election when this term comes to an end.

In the press release announcing the shadow cabinet, Poilievre reiterated the greatest hits from his campaign.

“Together with this team, Conservatives will take on “Justinflation”, fight all of Trudeau and his costly coalition’s tax hikes – including his plans to triple the expensive carbon tax – and tackle the cost-of-living crisis so that young people can buy a home, families can afford nutritious food, and our seniors can retire with dignity,” he said. “Together, we will ensure Canadians benefit from the fruits of their labour, so they can take back control of their lives here in Canada, the freest country on earth.”
