Steinbach needs a new full-time library director after the departure of Chrystie Kroeker Boggs.

Library board member and councillor Bill Hiebert did not give a reason for her departure. Kroeker Boggs took the job in January 2020 after the retirement of Carolyn Graham. She had been head librarian at Steinbach Bible College before that, spending 12 years there.

Hiebert said Kroeker Boggs left on her own accord and was not sure where she went. The job posting is now up and applications from qualified candidates have already come in, he said. The application deadline on the posting was Nov. 19, with an expected start date of Jan. 2.

“We’ll be doing interviews very soon,” said Hiebert.

For now, assistant library director Aubrey Walker and library manager Katarina Garrecht are responsible for running the library.

And the new director will have new things to do, hinted Hiebert.

“I can’t comment on some of the things we’re going to do; you’re going to find out in the next little while,” laughed Hiebert.

Jake Epp Public Library serves a population of about 25,000 with 15 employees.
