Peavey Mart opens doors in Steinbach with focus on feed, farm, ranch

Home and hardware store Peavey Mart has opened its doors in Steinbach with a focus on feed, farm, and ranch goods making it unique among other retail stores of its kind.

“Generally, in any of our 90 locations we’re always targeting that farm and ranch customer that could be someone with a large acreage or someone raising chickens in their backyard. We’ll cover a wide array of customers depending on how you want to define farm and ranch,” said Mark Ware, vice-president of retail for Peavey Industries.

The 28,800 sq.ft. store will sell more than 15,000 items including agricultural supplies, such as farming equipment, animal feed, gardening tools, an extensive range of hardware, home improvement, and outdoor living products. The Steinbach location will also provide a clothing department covering workwear and everyday lifestyle options. Amongst other departments, this location will offer homesteading, birding, grilling, automotive services, and a pet department, which includes an in-store dog washing station.

“We’re excited to bring a pet wash. This will be a first for Peavey Mart. We’re very keen on exploring services. As much as we have an excellent assortment, we also want to bring different services to the table. So, you can wash your dog and pick up your pet food and any other supplies all in one visit,” said Ware.

The 1,440 sq.ft. greenhouse will carry seasonal goods for lawns, yards, and gardens ready for the spring and summer seasons and will convert to a Christmas and toy department in the colder months.

“We’ll have live plants. Full selection of lawn and garden and power equipment,” said Ware.

The Peavey Mart will employ 21 people.

“This will be our sixth store for the province of Manitoba with Peavey Mart on it. We’ve had great success in the Manitoba market in general and found that there was opportunity in (the Steinbach) market to continue to expand and offer the community what we have,” said Ware.

Peavey Mart is a Canadian-owned company with it’s headquarters in Red Deer, Alta. The company’s retail side goes back to 1967 when its headquarters was located in Winnipeg. Peavey Mart currently has six Manitoba locations in Steinbach, Brandon, Swan River, Winkler, and two locations in Winnipeg.
