Chris Goertzen Park in Steinbach is looking a little greener this week, after volunteers took part in TD Tree Days on Sunday.
TD Bank staff and other volunteers came to the park to plant 450 small trees.
Ken Fosty, certified arborist and tree advisor to TD, said they planted mostly white spruce with some balsam fir and pine thrown into the mix.

“It’s wonderful to see community involvement like this,” he said as eager volunteers grabbed shovels and trees to begin the work. “Trees are so important.”
A former farmstead site, many of the trees are nearing the end of their lifespans. The new trees allow for growth before the others age out according to Fosty.
The TD tree planting program has made a difference across Canada.
Since 2010, TD volunteers have planted over 520,000 trees.
Steinbach branch manager Mallory Cabana was there with her family to take part.

She helped organize the event after being approached in April.
While she’s planted trees with the program in other areas, Cabana said this is the first time she’s worked on a Steinbach project.
While local TD Bank employees made up a large portion of the volunteers they were joined by other TD Bank staff from Winnipeg, Kenora and Teulon as well as community volunteers.
“Everyone loves being outside, connecting with nature and giving back to the community,” she said. “It doesn’t take a lot of time but has a huge lasting impact on communities.”
