Canada’s favourite redhead is coming to the Pat Porter stage.

Storytellers Entertainment will show Anne of Green Gables on Nov. 1 and 2 to the delight of many.

Anne of Green Gables was a play that I’ve been wanting to do for such a long time already,” said director and producer Devon Littlejohn. “It was a story that I read growing up and I figured now seems to be as good a time as ever to bring that story to life.”

Anne of Green Gables tells the story of orphan Anne Shirley who ends up in Prince Edward Island with elderly brother and sister Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. Twelve-year-old Anne gets into many hijinks while living with the Cuthberts, but her imaginative spirit endears her to the couple and those around her.

“It tells a whimsical heart melting journey,” said Littlejohn.

The actress who plays Anne is Violet Kirpluk who Littlejohn said is phenomenal. Kirpluk played the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland and has done shows in Winnipeg.

“She captures the fiery spirit that Anne Shirley has,” said Littlejohn.

Playing Marilla and Mattew are Ruth Reimer and Michael Williams. Reimer was in the Storytellers production of Sherlock Holmes and Williams was in Café Murder.

“As you may know, Marilla is known as an equally harsh ruler of her own thoughts and behaviour and Ruth Reimer does an excellent job in capturing those kinds of characters – stern, rebukes herself – however at the same time Ruth also does a really good job at her ridged emotional life as well the emotional side of her. Whereas Marilla’s brother, Matthew, is soft spoken type which Micheal does a really good job of that,” said Littlejohn.

Littlejohn said he has a list of plays he wants to direct and that each has a different feel and genre. He said it was important for him to have local talent in his productions.

“When I started Storytellers, featuring local talent, all ages, all sizes, and all experiences was a priority for me. Here at Storytellers, we believe that anyone, regardless of their experience, deserves a chance to shine on stage and bring the community closer to each other while doing so.”

Anne of Green Gables will play at the Pat Porter Active Living Centre on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the centre.
