A West End Broadway hit will premiere in Steinbach thanks to Looking Glass Theatre.

Mr. & Mrs. Nobody will show in Steinbach Feb. 14, 15, 21 and 22.

Since its first run in London featuring Dame Judi Dench and her husband Michael Williams, this hit has been charming audiences for decades. This is the first time it’s coming to Canada.

In a Tuesday press release, Looking Glass Theatre explained the show is based on the satirical Victorian novel, Diary of a Nobody.

“This gentle domestic comedy serves up sharp wit and laughs aplenty as it follows the social trials and triumphs of the lovable but vanity-stricken Charles Pooter and his wife Cari, as told to their respective diaries,” the press release stated.

Charles and Cari Pooter are played by professional actors and real life married couple Chris Friesen and Esther Koepnick. The play also features Eve Ros Moore as Sarah, Carrie’s maid.

Directed by Looking Glass Theatre’s co-artistic directors Marc A. Moir and Laura Kathleen Turner, it’s a production they believe will be loved by the audience.

“We chose this particular show because of how funny it is, and we know audiences will have so much fun laughing with, and occasionally at, the Pooters,” Turner said.

“If you love British TV with sharp wit, dry humour, and just a touch of slapstick, then you’ll adore this charming show,” the press release adds.

A perfect night for couples, families and groups of friends, the show runs in Steinbach at the Mennonite Heritage Village at 7 p.m. on Feb. 14, 15, and 21. Saturday, Feb. 22 will include both a 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. show. It will also run for one night only in Morden at the Kenmor Theatre on Feb. 28.

Tickets are available at www.lookingglasstheatre.ca/nobodies and at the door.
