Team Kate Cameron should have some extra expertise on the bench when the Scotties Tournament of Hearts begins Feb. 15.

The St Adolphe-based team has picked up four-time world champion Glenn Howard to coach the team through the national championships.

“We can’t wait to have his knowledge and expertise along side us throughout our time in Thunder Bay,” the team shared when announcing the move on social media.

Howard announced his full retirement from playing in 2024, but has been putting in work as a coach for years. He helped Great Britain’s Eve Muirhead rink past Team Canada and into the semi-finals at the 2018 Olympics.

For the past few years, he’s been coaching the Jennifer Jones rink and the team skipped by his son, Scott.

Cameron won’t be the only local connection playing for a national curling championship, as Ty Dilello made the most of his first trip to Newfoundland and Labrador. He flew into the province having never visited before, and flew back a provincial champion, leading his team to a berth at the national championships.

Dilello, who writes for the Niverville Citizen and has written multiple books about Manitoba hockey history, had been playing third for Ryan Wiebe and finding success in mixed curling as well.

After team Wiebe disbanded this season, Dilello turned west for an opportunity, choosing to head up an existing team consisting of Ryan McNeil Lamswood, Daniel Bruce and Aaron Feltham.
