A team from the region will once again take to the ice for a winner-takes-all hockey game.

The Eastman Selects female U18 AAA team will be in for a battle March 29, when they host the Winnipeg Avros for the final game of their league championships.

The Selects took a 2-0 series lead, only for the Avros to pick up a pair of 2-0 shutout victories in game three and four, forcing the fifth and decisive game. Avros goalie Adriana Almeida was spectacular, especially in game four, as the Selects directed 40 shots on net, and were buzzing throughout most of the third period, but couldn’t get a puck past Almeida.

An Addilyn Nohlgren goal late in the first period was all the advantage the Avros needed to force a final game of the series, as they clung on for dear life after taking the lead, getting out-shot 30-6 in the second and third period.

Puck drop for game five takes place at 8 p.m., at the Niverville Resource and Rec Centre.

A pair of home overtime victories have the St Malo Warriors up 2-1 over the Beausejour Comets in the Capital Region Junior Hockey League finals.

Brady Gregoire and Ian Friesen got to be the hero for the Warriors in game one and three respectively.

Friesen not only tallied the overtime winner, but scored with under two minutes to go in game three to tie the game. It was a memorable comeback for St Malo, as they entered the third period down 3-0, but came back to win in the first extra time period.

That result erased a come-from-behind victory for the Comets in game two, as Keston Worley got the visitors on the board first, before three straight Beausejour goals in the third period nabbed a victory.

Game four is in Beausejour March 28, with game five back in St Malo March 30. The Sunday evening puck drop is at 6 p.m. Game six would be in Beausejour if needed April 2, with a potential game seven in St Malo April 4.
