Ste Anne ball hockey standout named to provincial Indigenous hall of fame

Chantal Larocque has followed her sister into the Manitoba Indigenous Sports Hall of Fame.
Ste Anne’s Larocque, who is a Red River Metis woman, has played ball hockey at the national level for over a decade, winning gold medals at the International Street and Ball Hockey Federation World Championships in 2015 and 2017.
Larocque returned to ball hockey as a masters athlete in 2022, winning a silver and gold medal. In 2024 she was named the top forward and all star at the Canada Ball Hockey National Championships.

She also competed at the inaugural Masters Ball Hockey National Championship, being named tournament MVP en route to a championship win.
Chantel’s sister, Jocelyne Larocque, plays ice hockey professionally, racking up 200 games for Team Canada. Jocelyne was inducted into the Manitoba Indigenous Sports Hall of Fame as part of their first class of inductees in 2022.
Joining Larocque as part of the class of 2025 are Bryan McCorrister (builder – Special Olympics), Henry McKay (builder), Larry Sharpe (athlete – kickboxing), Paul Chartrand (athlete – baseball/hockey), Trina Ross (athlete – canoeing) and Claude Lambert (athlete – baseball).
Sharpe was born in Pine Falls, and was undefeated as a professional kickboxer, and in 2002 was the top-ranked combatant by the International Kickboxing Federation. In boxing, he racked up a professional record of 25-9, nabbing three titles.
