Having celebrated their 30th season last year, the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League will drop the puck on their 31st season of junior hockey in the southeast on Friday night.
With the return of the Grunthal Jr. Red Wings to the loop this season, the league now has seven teams, up one from last season.
The season will open simultaneously at Grunthal and Steinbach on Friday as the Red Wings will host the St. Adolphe Hawks and the Huskies will entertain the Red River Mudbugs.
Red River claimed their first HTJHL crown last spring, sweeping St. Adolphe four straight in the finals.
Rounding out the seven-team loop are the Lorette Comets, Springfield Xtreme and Mitchell Mohawks.
One other game on the opening weekend of the season will have the Lorette Comets travelling to Oakbank on Saturday for an 8:00 p.m. clash with the Springfield Xtreme.
Each team will play a 24-game regular season schedule, with the first place finisher receiving a bye in the first round of the playoffs.
Ray Laing, back for another year as president of the HTJHL, says the opening round of the post-season will be a best of five affair, followed by two best of seven series.
The regular season will wrap up Feb. 9.
