Steinbach will host the 2025 Manitoba 55 Plus Games.

In an announcement June 12, host committee chair Audrey Harder said this will be the first time in 14 years the community has hosted the games and will be a great opportunity for community organizations to work together.

A lot has changed in those 14 years in Steinbach as well.

“We will have the chance to show off the new Southeast Event Centre, renovated bowling alley, golf course, baseball fields, paths and so much more,” she said in a press release. “This event is expected to bring over 1,000 people to Steinbach, a place that is definitely worth the trip.

The hosting committee made their bid for the games earlier this year, after getting endorsement from Steinbach city council.

While they learned they won the bid earlier they had to wait to make the announcement until it was official.

That happened in Brandon where members met with their host committee which provided them helpful tips on how to ensure a successful event.

Linda Brown and her team from Active Aging in Manitoba will work with the local committee to create a plan for Steinbach’s event.

The games include 55 Plus Curling scheduled for March and the summer games which will run June 3-5.
