Sunny skies and a wide variety of music awaited attendees of the Rainbow Trout Music Festival south of St Malo last weekend, for what organizers described as one of the best independent music festivals in Manitoba.

For three days guests camped, danced, took part in activities, floated on the nearby Roseau River and listened to a wide variety of bands including rock, electro, hip-hop, blues, jazz, folk, garage, metal, punk and more.

Only the hardy dare brave this music festival.

Completely off grid there are no showers, no cell phone reception and no wi-fi.

Pathways wind through the forest and to travel off the path is to risk an encounter with the poison ivy that’s found in abundance at the site.

This year it was once again all about the entertainment. From Friday at 7 p.m. when The Haileys hit the main stage to 2:15 p.m. on Sunday when Paige Drobot was the last act, the music was a constant that kept guests engaged and planning to come back next season.
