LETTER TO THE EDITOR – Is America ready for what is coming?

Is America ready for what is coming in the next little while? Are they ready for a woman to be president? More important yet, are they ready for a black woman to be president? If you presented this question to the Christian nationalists, they would insist that it would not be considered for the next 1,000 years. They could not and would not give up their white power and dominance. By discussing this important question, there will be many different answers. We will leave it to the Americans to make that decision.

On the other hand, we might ask the question, are the Americans ready for a 78-year-old convicted felon to be their president? Are the 4,000 plus court cases against him relevant or not? Will the evangelicals give him a pass because they desperately want him to be their saviour to establish Christian nationalism where white men rule over woman and all other people? Theocracy sounds so wonderful to the power-hungry mindset. The assassination attempt on one of the candidates was supposed to make him softer and gentler according to the MAGA believers. He even claimed to be a Christian for the purpose of soliciting their vote. That conversion was short lived. Perhaps he did not get enough counselling from the evangelical pastors to complete that new birth experience. Regardless of the success or not there is a lot of enthusiasm in the right wing MAGA movement to crown him as the God sent King of Glory. The prophets are busy predicting all kind of things to come. A portion of society is wiling to swallow it hook line and sinker. You cannot separate Trumpism from Christian nationalism.

Maybe the me-too movement will have something to say as well. Could they possibly be the swing vote?

On the other hand, there is a new political storm and energy flowing full force. The old 81-year-old president Biden has stepped aside from another term to let a younger generation take over. This has created a new political reality. A lot of hope and optimism for the future is spurring people on. Whether this is a honeymoon for the new rising star or a momentum that keeps going remains to be seen.

There are powerful motivation factors at play here. One side is the Trumpism MAGA movement which includes most evangelicals who have a dream to establish Christian nationalism. The more moderate GOP faction has been pushed to the side and labeled as rhinos. The MAGA movement is pushing to go backward to a time where the white people had complete control. That is why book banning is so important to them. Erase history wherever possible.

The new political revival winds are blowing under the democratic party umbrella. For the time being this storm seems to suck the oxygen out of Trump and Trumpism. One of three things will happen that affect us in Canada. It will be positive, negative or stay the same. Time will tell.

Polls are not accurate predictors but rather a snapshot, and therefore we can not afford to be emotionally affected. However, I can make a few predictions I feel confident about.

1. Election deniers are going to be plenty. This is part of the process to undermine confidence of the electorate to weaken democracy.

2. Conspiracy theories will be in abundance, and it will be hard to factcheck them all. Untrained minds will be chased into many rabbit holes.

3. False prophets will predict many fantasies which will eventually implode and shake innocent people’s faith.

4. Churches will get heavily involved in politics and get people disgusted to a degree where they will leave churches in droves or else splinter in too many factions and give up in their faith eventually.

5. Should the MAGA movement Christian nationalism be defeated, white machoman panic will set in where we can hear them whimpering in defeat and more freedom songs will be heard. I am with the movement that is looking forward to a brighter future.
